From Mark Williams -
I am looking for any information on my 5x gt grandfather  Lawrence Williams from the mylor area who married Margaret Unger around the middle of the 1700's, I think her sister married a _______    Tresidder.

From julie firth-
My name is Julie Firth and I am trying to find as much as I can about my great great grand parents who lived in Comfort, Mylor. Alexander Rogers was born in Ireland in 1798 but on the 1861 census it shows him living in Mylor with his wife Mary J Rogers and their children. He went to Trinity College in Dublin and left with a BA and he was connected to the navy, Royal or Merchant I am not sure. He is buried in the naval area of the cemetry in Mylor Church (the Church near the boat yard) He died in 1884. I would like to find out as much as possible. Your help would be appreciated if you are able. Many thanks

From Jackie Monk-

From Noreen Weitkamp -
Noreen's interests are - Treglown (Tregloan - all spellings) Family came from St Gluvias but with close connections to Mylor and the Mylor Bridge area.

From Rick - (the owner of the Penryn site at http://pages.sbcglobal.net/dtq/web/penryn/penryn.htm)
James Mitchell and Ann James married April 21, 1783 in Mylor and soon after moved to Penryn.

From Gail Gilmore in Australia -
I have a Mary Catharine or Mary Caroline WOON supposedly born in Mylor in abt 1825. She was the daughter of Joseph WOON, mariner. I have not been able to find a baptism for her. There are a couple of possibles in St Just in Roseland but they do not match either father's name or date.

Stephen Treseder, CFHS: 4822 writes-
I am interested in Mylor as one centre for my TRESEDER/TRESIDDER one name study, particularly, but not exclusively,  in:
a] Greatwood House & the descent of John Tresidder & Ann HOSKEN of Cubert marr Mylor 1735.
b] The  locality and origins of the nursery at Mylor owned by John TRESEDER, drowned in Mylor Pool in 1850. He was my 2nd gt granduncle & is buried in the floor of the church tower.
c] Any data on the TRESIDDER family in Mylor where I believe they were active as churchwardens etc in the 18th century.

From Keith Lawer -
LAWER, Thomas & Ann - nee TIPPET. Thomas and Ann moved from Newlyn East to Mylor sometime between 1794, after their child Mary was baptised in Newlyn East and 1804, before William was baptised in Newlyn East. There were two children baptised in Mylor, John Tippet - 1798 and Thomas -1801. I have been unable to find a reason why Thomas and Ann moved from Newlyn East to Mylor during this time. In 1840 Thomas was joint owner of a cottage and moorland at Nanhellan, Newlyn East. The 1841 census lists Thomas as an Agricultural Labouer.

From Ann -
My interest is Charles Thomas Paul born abt 1859 at Mylor, the son of John and Mary (nee Bradford) Paul. John Paul was a sailmaker. They  were living in Dunedin New Zealand by 1891.

From Jacqui Tiffany -
My families are: George(Edward and Ambrosine), Wilmot(Frank), and Hicks and Gill from Mylor and Flushing. Any leads would be very useful.

Terry Bennett, who was born in Falmouth in 1941, has contacted me. Terry lived in Flushing with my grandmother Mary Ethel Bennett in the early 1950's before the family emigrated to New Zealand. Terry’s great uncle, Cyril Bennett, built three houses in Mylor, all close to each other and named Weilhacket, Morwenna and The Beacon. Weilhacket has now been demolished to make way for a huge new home--the other two houses still remain as does the name "Weilhacket"

Terry would like to locate his grandmothers grave. Mary Bennett lived in Flushing all her life and died at the age of 91 or so, in the year 1971 or 1972. Terry’s late father arranged her burial at Mylor but was unable to go back for the funeral (the family was in New Zealand at the time). Terry believes that she was laid to rest in the “new part” of the cemetery. Is there anyone who may be able to advise him where she is buried. Her husband, Arthur Sidney Bennett, died 1941, and he is buried somewhere in the old cemetery.

Terry is coming came back for short visit in September 2003 and want to locate his nan’s grave and place some flowers there. Can anyone can give him any information? -

ADDENDUM JUNE 2004:
Just an addendum to my GILLET ancestors.  I now know that my 2X great Grandfather James Routledge/Rutledge was buried either Mylor/Flushing sometime after 1871. If anyone spots the grave I would be interested to know its location or if an entry can be found in the church register.

FromDawn Simmonds-
I am researching my husbands family some of whom had connections with Mylor/ Mylor Bridge.
These include:
James Cundy b. circa 1809/10 who was a Coastguard and I believe at some stage lived at Beach Cottage.
Jenifer Cundy believed to be Vincent nee Jane.
Peter Jane Cundy their son,  b. 1851. d. 1915 (buried Falmouth)
Peter Jane Cundy married Grace Oates ( b. 1856 Redruth) and the 1881 census shows her living at Mylor with Mabel and Elizabeth.
Peter is listed as a mariner so presumably was away at the time.  Family gossip says that he was a ships pilot but we have not been able to prove this.
If anyone has any further information we would be most grateful.

I was hoping you may be able to help me trace my family tree, I have found a William Pellow who had a son Henry Trevaskis Pellow born 1825 at Wesleyan Bridge Mylor. Any information you may have on the family I would be most grateful.

From Paul Knight -
Interesting web site – stumbled across it whilst trying to find family history. I would be interested to know if you have come across any history of some of my ancestors. In particular Bartholomew James, Royal Navy Captain, who retired to Mylor and built ‘Woodhouse’ with his RN pay-off. He was born in Falmouth and died in 1830(?). He is my GGGGG Grandfather.
Also, Rear Admiral Thomas Ball Sulivan (surname sometimes spelt as Sullivan), who was the son-in-law of Bartholomew James, having married the latter’s 2nd daughter, Henrietta. He died in 1857 and is buried in Mylor Church cemetery together with many family members. TB Sulivan was a survivor of the ship wreck of HMS Anson on Loe Bar on The Lizard in 1807 and was taken to James’ house to recover. Also, Bartholomew James Sulivan, my GGG Grandfather, (eldest son of TB Sulivan, and named after maternal Grandfather) – he is listed as a Mylor ‘stray’ in the 1873 census when living in London, so I assume was born there also. As a young man BJ Sulivan was 2nd Lieutenant on HMS Beagle, eventually retiring as an Admiral and KCB.
I note that your site lists a ‘Rear Admiral Sullivan’, and assume this to be TB Sulivan. Any information that you have on the above would be gratefully received, particularly as to whether ‘Woodhouse’ still exists today, or indeed it’s likely location in Mylor. Also, any other addresses associated with the above.

[Trefusis Territory by U. Redwood has over a page devoted to the Sullivan family, Thomas Ball Sulivan and Henrietta had a huge number of children (see www.familysearch.org) but most died young. Woodlands lies on the road Mylor Bridge to St Gluvius church, does it still exist? - RM]

Here are a few notes that I have made regarding the VAILLANT family which I would be pleased if you would add to your web site. I am also sending a copy to Paul Knight (Sulivan) as you will see the 2 families are connected :-
I am researching the family name VAILLANT on behalf of my friend and neighbour Roger Vaillant, so far we have discovered:
Jan Jacob Vaillant married Eliza (Elizabeth) James, 8 Mar 1821 at Mylor. Eliza James was the eldest daughter of Rear Admiral Bartholomew James. They had 3 children, Henrietta, Maria, and John. Henrietta remained a spinster and died in Pontypridd in 1897. No trace can be found of Maria and John went to Chile where he married and had several children.
One John Ignatius Vaillant (b: Chile 1861) (Rogers Grandfather) returned to England and lived with his Aunt Henrietta (1881 Census (St Gluvias) Penryn). Whilst there he met Maria Mann (1881 Census 111 Tregew Mylor) and married her in 1885. They returned to Chile where they had 3 children , returning to England between 1891-1897. They moved to Pontypridd where Aunt Henrietta joined them, she died in 1897. I have a copy of her will dated 1896 which reads as follows.
" To my nephew J.T.Vaillant my house at Tregew Flushing near Falmouth, the portraits of my grandfather & grandmother Rear Admiral Bartholomew James and his wife painted by Sir Joshua Reynolds"
I am not sure if J.T.Vaillant is the same as John Ignatius Vaillant (or a typing error)as he is mentioned in full later in the will, but I am unaware of any other nephews apart from Henry Vaillant (b: Chile 1863).
I am interested in finding out who actually inherited the house at Tregew Flushing and what happened to the portraits.
A Death Notice appeared in The Times dated 7th August 1897:
"VAILLANT. - On the 3rd inst. at Graigwen, Pontypridd, S Wales  HENRIETTA VAILLANT, eldest daughter of the late Captain Vaillant of the Netherlands Navy and granddaughter of the late Admiral Bartholomew James, R.N. aged 73 years. Dutch papers please copy."

From Elaine Proffit in New Zealand -
Great site - came across it while browsing looking for genealogy related sites.
Looking for any information about a James SHAW, Mariner, and Thomasine HAMBLY who married in Mylor Church 9 May 1787. They had one son James Thomas SHAW born at Flushing and baptised at Mylor 22.8.1790. According to family history, James snr died when his son was an infant and Thomasine died when young James was about 4 years old. James jnr is supposed to have been raised by a Mr Symonds in St Austell. He eventually married and emigrated to NZ in 1840. Would really like to know birth or baptism and death date/place for James and Thomasine, any help appreciated.

From Roger -

Looking for origional that operated the Seven Stars Inn in Flushing starting with Peter Truro.

[I don't understand this one, RM]

From Chris Woolley -

My great aunt was Tot Tonkin, married to Jim, lived in Trefusis Road, Flushing.  Jim worked in the Falmouth dockyard.  I spent many summers staying with them during the late 50,s.  I think I am right in saying Tot had relatives who were the landlords of the Seven Stars for many years (before the war?).  Any further information from anyone who remembers Jim and Tot would be very welcome.

From Pam Veenstra -

Greetings from Australia
My interest in Mylor is through my great-great-grandmother, Jane CUTTINGS/CUTTANCE.  She was baptised in Mylor 20 Mar 1803 and married Richard PEARCE in St Melorus, Mylor on 1 May 1830. Her parents were John CUTTANCE and Elizabeth THOMAS.  Jane had six siblings, five of whom were also born in Mylor: John in 1794, Henry in 1796, Michael in 1801, Ann b 1807 who married William TREMAYNE in 1832 and Gertrude b 1812 who married William Rowe JAMES in 1833.
I would be interested in hearing from anyone who is researching these families.

From Lindley Roff - or October, 2006 normally resident in Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada but currently on holiday in South Africa and Australia

I have genealogical interests in the Mylor and Flushing areas.  My ancestors were Anthony Crease and Elizabeth Blake.  They married in 1775 and he was named as a mariner.

I have come across the name Anthony Crease between then and about 1805 as a Packet Captain and possibly as a person who had something to do with the Trefusis family and house building in Flushing in the late 1700s.  I have no idea if these were the same Anthony Crease.

In the early 1800's my ancestor, Anthony Crease, was a warden at the Anglican Church at Mylor and by 1809 he and a lot of his family had immigrated to Alexandria Virginia, in the USA.  My direct ancestor, Henry Crease was, by that time, in the Royal Navy and stayed back in England (Saltash area) until his death in about 1865.  HIs son married and moved to Victoria, British Columbia, Canada

I have had no end of difficulties tracing the Creases back in Mylor, Flushing as the records I looked at in the county records office earlier this year were either too faded, illegible or missing.  I would appreciate any assistance with my searches.

From Barbara Searle October, 2006 -
I have been researching my Family Tree for many years now.  My great grandfather, William Bullock was born in 1837 in West Mersea in Colchester - he was a Mariner.  He presumably travelled down to Mylor Bridge for work and married Margaret Eliza Johns (b.1843 in Mylor Bridge) in May 1864.  They subsequently had seven children. The parents of Margaret Eliza were William and Catherine Johns b.1805, both born in Mylor. Their children:  Margaret Eliza, Elizabeth b1827, Mary b.1828, Catherine b.1830, Bennett b.1833.   My interest is in the name of Bennett - my grandfather carried the name: Bennett Charles Bullock and subsequently my father: Clarence Bennett Bullock.  Having searched through various records I note the name Bennett to be a surname in the main.   We have just recently visited Mylor Bridge and Mylor and looked around the Church and have found several graves with the name Johns, but unfortunately not one of mine.  I also  remember seeing some with the name of Bennett.  If there is anybody who is researching the same interest, I would be very pleased to hear from them.   We just loved the area, it is so quaint - just like walking back in time.

From Colin Bennett February, 2007 -
My Gt Gt Grandfather, John BENNETT born in 1813 at Woolwich Kent, a coastguard moved to Falmouth around 1840. His wife Martha gave birth to several children over the years one of which being an Alexander, born in 1842, at Bognor, Sussex. Briefly Alexander married a lady called Alice. She was born in Budock cornwall, date unknown. From the census's of 1871 through to 1891 I have Alexander and Alice living in the parish of Mylor.
1871 living at 11, St johns place. 1881, Tregatreath, 1891, Church rd.

An entry on your site from a Terry BENNETT from New Zealand makes mention of an Arthur BENNETT and a Cyril BENNETT. Alexander had 2 children of the same names. I have emailed Mr Bennett as it is possible that we may be related.

I would love to hear from anyone who may know of the above and if it is possible that there are still living relatives of the BENNETT family in Mylor.

From Alan Grover February, 2007 -
Snell family tree. Currently have traced back to John Snell Bn. c1767 who married Elizabeth (possibly White) Bn. c1771. They had 7 children ie; Samuel c1793, Betsy c1795, John c1797, Mary Ann c1799, Jane c1805, Henry c1807, and Mary Ann c1810. All appear to have been Born in Mylor. Can anybody provide additional information regarding John & Elizabeth as information regarding thier children appears to vary. I'm certain about Henry 1807 as I'm a descendant of his. Regards Alan Grover

From Rosemary Richardson, March 2008

My JANE forebears lived in Flushing from 1760 and migrated to Geelong, Australia in 1849. Bennett JANE, who married four times (three times in Mylor) was a blacksmith by trade, later becoming a coal merchant. The 1851 census places a JANE grandson in a TREVENA household in Mylor. Now, for reasons too complex to explain, I am trying to find a JANE/TREVENA marriage.

From Louise, April 2009

My great Great grandfather was a John Nancarrow who emigrated to Australia sometime in the mid 1800's (with a stepfather" whose surname was Pascoe who died at sea). John was born in 1836 at Mylor. His siblings were Catherine b 1824,William b 1826, Elizabeth 1826, Theresa b. 1828 and Ellen all born at Mylor. The parents  were John Nancarrow and Christian (nee Willson) who were married at Mylor. I can see from the 1841 census that Christian was a shopkeeper in Moor St Mylor and had 4 children with her...but in the 1851 census there is no record of them.  I suspect they probably dies at Mylor too but I can't find any record on line for that.  I am going to be visiting Mylor in July and would love to be able to find out a bit more about my family.

Enrique Bay-Schmith, Concepcion, Chile, April 2009

Humphrey and Grosvenor (b. 1790) Bunster lived in Mylor , their mother was Jane Carr Winckworth. They migrated to Chile as well as their cousins who apparently lived in Penryn and whose names were the same, Humphrey (b.1785) and Grosvenor (b.1787) Bunster, but their mother's surname was Nika. I am looking for ancestors connecting both pair of cousins and any other relatives who stayed in England.

My own interests are the family of: Richard STAPLE who married Ann COLET , 11 Jun 1761 and their descendants.

Richard STAPLE married Ann COLET , 11 Jun 1761 at Mylor, their children were:

Richard STAPLE (baptised 1769) married Mary GEORGE (baptised 1776) at Mylor 6 July 1799, their children were:

In 1841 Richard Staple was living at Comfort near Mylor Bridge, his daughter Mary-Ann and husband Thomas Johns were there in 1851
